Schaeffler and FPT earlier this month sat down to discuss further collaboration in automotive, smart factory, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and potentially education. Both sides had a very productive meeting as Schaeffler Chairman, Mr. Georg Schaeffler, and his top executives paid a visit to FPT Software campus in Ho Chi Minh City.

Hackathon 2.0 was one of the key discussion points on the agenda. Accordingly, Schaeffler and FPT agreed to conduct a Hackathon workshop in May to discuss smart factory solutions for the company’s 45-million-euro plant, which was launched earlier this month in the Southern Bien Hoa city. Two sides were also open to opportunities to scale up solutions for Schaeffler’s plants around the world if the first smart factory project is successful.

According to Andreas Schick, Schaeffler Chief Operations Officer, the German manufacturer also looks to develop expertise in Digital, Automotive, and Operations. These are areas where FPT could work together with its strategic partner to leverage its digital platforms and advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, mobility, Big Data, Internet of Things, etc.

Following the meeting, Schaeffler delegates were invited to tour FPT Software campus and learned about the tech company’s fascinating projects across sectors and borders. FPT Chairman Truong Gia Binh and Schaeffler Chairman Georg Schaeffler also mentioned the possibilities for cooperation between FPT University and Schaeffler Academy in the future.

Schaeffler is a global automotive and industrial supplier with revenue of approximately 14.2 billion euros  in 2018. With around 92,500 employees and a worldwide network of manufacturing locations in over 50 countries, it is also one of the largest family companies in the world.
