On 13/01/2017, FPT Software celebrates its 18 years of operation in which the company has maintained a strong spirit and an youthful desire to bring the Vietnam technology image across the globe.

Here are some of the highlights of the company’s history:

1999

Establishing FSU1. In June 1999, FPT opened up FSU1 for operations. This Unit was originally composed of 13 FSS officers. FSU1 was headed by Director Nguyen Thanh Nam, Deputy Directors Nguyen Khac Thanh and Nguyen Lam Phuong

In November 1999, FPT’s first overseas office was established in India. This marked the first step of FPT people materializing their globalization dream

2000:

In January 2000, FPT held a press release to announce the establishment of FPT USA, opening an office in Silicon Valley, which is managed by Henry Tran Van and Le Hong Son.

2001:

FPT Software turned to Japan. After the journey to the East that Mr. Nam and Mr. Binh took at the end of 2000, in consultation and assistance from Director Sumitomo in arranging meetings between them and Japan’s leading companies, FPT Software got the first contract in Japan with NTT-IT.

2002:

In March 2002, as the CMM-4 campaign succeeded after near a year since deployment, FPT Software became the first company in South-East Asia obtaining the CMM-4 and making it to the Quality Leadership 100 list for quality management.

2003:

More and more contracts signed with Japanese clients made Japan the primary market for FPT Software.

2004:

On 13 April 2004, FPT Ho Chi Minh was established.

2005:

On 13 August 2005, FPT Software officially set foot in the territory of the central region – Danang city.

On 13 November 2005, FPT Software Japan Co., Ltd. was officially opened in Tokyo. This company was headquartered in Tokyo and had a representative office in Osaka. This is the first software company in Japan whose 100% capital was owned by a Vietnamese company.

2006:

In March 2006, FPT Software kicked off the biggest outsourcing project in the region where the company was the general contractor responsible for converting 1500 applications from Lotus Notes to Microsoft for over 20,000 users in Malaysia. The project lasted 20 months with more than 400 participants who were pulled from all regions, including North, Central, and South.

In March 2006, FPT Software became the first company of Vietnam that obtained a TUV NORD certification in information security management systems (BS7799-2:2000).

In May 2006, FPT Software obtained the CMMi level 5, putting FPT in the list of 150 world’s companies recognized by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) for having the highest level of software production capacity in the maturity model.

2007:

On 13 March 2007, FPT Software Asia-Pacific Co., Ltd. was established.

2008:

FPT Software completed one step of the globalization plan by being present in all intended markets, establishing a branch in Europe, Malaysia, U.S.A., and Australia.

2009:

On 13 January 2009, FPTSS under FPT Software HCM was established. This was the first time FPT Software had a subsidiary company. Following suit, within the restructuring context of Hanoi branch, 4 subsidiary companies were formed, namely FRD, FMD, F2W, and FSE. This confirmed FPT Software’s intention to develop more in-depth, focus on core business areas, create opportunities for employees to learn, experiment, and progress. These companies officially operated on 1 January 2010.

2010:

On 1 January 2010, Mr. Ogawa Takeo became the first foreigner appointed a management position at FPT Software as he officially  assumed the position of FPT Japan Director. On the occasion of celebrating FJP’s 5th year in operation, it was noted that the company had made stable steps, establishing foundation for FPT Software’s future development in Japan, a strategic market of FPT Software.

2011:

FPT Software’s 2nd Campus in Ho Chi Minh city was established. It is anticipated that this campus will be able to provide office space for about 5,000 programmers, which will create the momentum for FPT Software to develop in the next 10 years.

2012:

Effective 1 January 2012, FPT Software operated under new management with Mr. Hoang Nam Tien as Chairman and Mr. Nguyen Thanh Lam as CEO. The company also adopted its new organizational structure with no subsidiary companies but instead strategic business software models according to specific business areas, markets, or clients.

2013:

FPT Software was in the list of top 500 software companies by Software Magazine issued on 13 September. In November, FPT Software continued to receive an international award called “Top 100 IT & BPO services companies” from the Global Services (India), which was assessed and announced by NeoGroup (U.S.A.) in November 2013. FPT Software had received this award in 2012. By this time, FPT Software was the only IT company in Vietnam that made it to reputable lists of the international IT industry.

2014:

FPT Software was named as Leader in the 2014’s Top 100 Global Outsourcing Companies organized by the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals.

In June 2014, FPT Software acquired RWE IT company and renamed it to FPT Slovakia.

2015:

Mr. Hoang Viet Anh was appointed FPT Software CEO, effective August 1st. He is FPT Software’s 4th CEO, following Mr. Nguyen Thanh Lam (2012 -2015), Ms. Bui Thi Hong Lien (2009 – 2011), and Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam (1999 -2009).

FPT Software acquired ISO 20000 certificate. This is the first ISO 20000 certificate of Vietnam up to now.

In 2015, FPT Software started bringing students of the 10,000 BrSE program to Japan for training with the target to meet the needs for Japanese resources of the unit in 2016 and the following years.

2016:

FPT Software’s new organizational structure took effect from 1/1/2016, including 9 groups: Business Development, Delivery, Quality Management, Human Resources Management and Development, Finance, Information system, Technology, Assistance to the Board of Directors, Shared Services Center. This is to focus more on Delivery and Quality to provide better services to clients.

FPT established a branch in Korea.

Opening of the F-Complex campus (Da Nang). FPT Complex is capable of providing workplace for 10,000 people and is the largest IT services center of the central region.
