delegation visit FPT Software |

Delegates from the Philippines, led by Mr. Cristino L.
Panlilio, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Under
Secretary and Board of Investment (BOI) Managing Head of the
Philippines, visited FPT Software Ho Chi Minh City on August
25, 2010, to enhance bilateral understanding.
In 2009, FPT Software Technologies Inc was established in
the Philippines as a Joint Venture Company primarily
focusing on ERP implementation, Call Center and Application
Maintenance services as well as Software Development
Services. |

The FPT mobile
phone F99 has been produced with many pre-eminent functions
including free software application warehouse named F-store.
To promote this application warehouse, FPT Software
coordinated with FPT Trading Group to hold a contest
“Company with F-store” in which candidates had to write
applications for FPT mobile phones.
To bring greater efficiency to the contest, a series of
conferences discussing around this contest will be held in
the four major cities of Hanoi, Danang, Can Tho and Ho Chi
Minh City, involving nine top IT universities such as Hanoi
University of Science and Technology, Technology University,
FPT University, etc. |

FPT Corporation receives Vietnamese Golden Star Award |
|
FPT Corporation was chosen to be included as one of the Top
10 Vietnamese Brands in 2010. This was the 2nd time the FPT
Brand featured in the Top 10 of the Vietnamese Golden Star
Award.
The Vietnamese Golden Star Award began in 2003. It was
established by the Central Association of Vietnam Youth
Union and the Central Association of Vietnam Enterprises to
recognize Vietnamese brands and products that were being
marketed globally. |

Government
to go online |
The Vietnamese government has approved a plan to share some
administration documents online from 2011 to 2015 for better
government operation and to provide information to
residents.
The plan aims to increase the efficiency of government
agencies while reducing operation costs and making
government actions more transparent. Accordingly, residents
are allowed to download the necessary documents for
administrative procedures and be updated on any progress
applications are making with government agencies.

Thai software
companies seek business in VIETNAM |
|
Sixteen software
companies from Thailand met executives of more than 50
Vietnamese firms in Ho Chi Minh City on August 26, 2010, to
exchange information about IT trends and solutions and seek
business partners.
The Thai companies discussed their products, including IT
solutions for restaurants, department store and tourism
management, offering software for e-commerce solutions,
multimedia and video presentations, etc. The event also
included a seminar on how advertising budgets have shifted
from mass media to interactive media, and a discussion of
credit-risk models and social-network marketing.
The event was co-organized by Thailand’s Department of
Export Promotion, the Thai Software Industry Promotion
Agency, and the Thai Software Export Promotion Association.

IT sector targets
US$17 billion over five years |
|
The country’s information technology industry has set a
revenue target of US$17 billion by 2015, according to the
Ministry of Information and Communications.
The plan to develop the country’s IT industry until 2015 and
2020 had been drafted by the Ministry to be submitted to the
Government later this year. Under the draft plan, the
average growth rate of the country’s IT industry would reach
17.5 per cent per year by 2015, with the hardware sector
increasing 18 per cent a year, software by 15 per cent and
digital content by 20 per cent.

sparkles with fireworks on National Day |
|
A firework
display and open-air concert brightened Hanoi on National
Day, September 2.
Ten of thousands of people flocked to Hoan Kiem (Restored
Sword) Lake in the heart of the capital to enjoy fireworks
which were set off at 9:00pm and also broadcast live on TV.
The open-air concert was performed by 400 singers and
dancers, martial artists, and pupils, and also took place on
the banks of Hoan Kiem Lake. The artistic performance began
with a Lion dance, followed by a demonstration of VOVINAM
(Vietnamese marital art), and songs about the Vietnamese
people and the country. The audience also enjoyed video
clips featuring Hanoi’s history, from the Dinh Dynasty
(968-980) to the day, featuring President Ho Chi Minh
reading the Declaration of Independence (September 2, 1945).
Firework displays and concerts were also held in other
locations across the country to mark the National Day.
