FPT
to reveal new brand identity during September 13 Festival |
|
September 13 is
the anniversary of FPT Corporation’s founding. Annually, the
Corporation celebrates with Olympic Games in the morning and
the STCo Gala (an FPT-style gala) in the evening. However,
this year’s anniversary will be different with the
traditional Olympic Day and STCo Night being replaced by a
Festival including traditional FPT games, beer party, rock
show and road march.
This Festival will be held in all three regions under the
slogan “Tiếp nguồn sinh khí” (Energizing Life) with a common
theme across all three regions “Lửa FPT tiếp nối 3 miền” (FPT’s
flame connects the three regions), starting on September 11
at FPT Ho Chi Minh, continuing on September 12 at FPT Danang
and coming to a close on September 13 at FPT Hanoi.
However, the highlight of this year’s Festival is that FPT
Corporation will officially reveal its new brand name and
communications message. By choosing September 13, FPT
intends that this day will not only mark an annual birthday
anniversary but also become a remarkable milestone in the
Corporation’s development history after 22 years of
operation.

Vehicle
Tracking System (VTS) |
|
Vehicle Tracking System (VTS) is a software
system which helps us manage children and vehicles by
defining a location based on Global Positioning System (GPS)
plus condition measure sensing.
Users are allowed to report urgent conditions
to the center or manager via text message or GPRS channel.
The manager can then immediately control the remote
management equipment, for example turning on/off the engine
or alert system.
Moreover, the system also has other
added-value services such as over-speed warning,
announcement for leaving/arriving at a location, maintenance
warning, report printing, vehicle booking, location
searching, trip guiding and road path checking.
Starting in March 2009, the product was
developed by the VTS project team. The Automatic Vehicle
Location tool of this system, which connects to the CAN bus
network, has also been completed to compile more information
about the engine to ensure the car is serviced and
maintained.
It is eventually hoped to widen the
application of this tool to other products and services,
such as industrial applications and smart houses.

First
face recognition device installed in Tien Phong Building |
|
A
digital face recognition device has been installed on the
first floor of Tien Phong Building. The device can recognize
faces of people coming to the building, as well as saving
their images. More interestingly, it can automatically
generate greetings in three languages: Vietnamese, Japanese
and English. In the near future, FRD expects to adopt this
face recognition technology to replace the current swipe
card security system. |

Vietnam
– one of top 20 countries for Internet users |
Along with six other Asian countries, Vietnam has been
listed among the top 20 countries in the world with the
highest numbers of Internet users.
This is the result of a survey by Pingdom, which provides
website and server supervising services to worldwide
organizations and businesses. According to the survey,
“Internet World Status”, though the world’s population
exceeds six billion, only 1.8 billion people have Internet
access and only 32 countries have over 10 million Internet
users. Notably, the top ten countries account for 65 percent
of the world’s total number of Internet users, with 1.17
billion. The Top 20 countries make up 1.47 billion users, or
82 percent.
China ranks top worldwide for population and Internet users.
This country’s Internet user numbers is double that of the
US. The total Internet users of China and the US account for
over half of total users in the top 15 countries. Asia has
six representatives, including Vietnam at 20th, accounting
for 35 percent of the world’s Internet users.
According to experts, India, China, Brazil, Vietnam, the
Philippines and Russia are “fertile lands” for the
development of Internet access in the next 5-10 years.

Good sign for
domestic software market |
|
Mr. Phi Anh
Tuan, Deputy President of HCM Computer Association (HCA),
predicted that Vietnam’s domestic software market will grow
26% in 2010 and achieve US$321 million in revenue.
It is a really positive sign and in fact enterprises from
various fields considered the Information Technology
industry (IT) as a solution for promoting competitiveness.
However, to participate in that new field, enterprises need
marketing programs and national support to develop their
trademark and approach the market.
Mr Tuan also
expressed concern at the declining quality of human
resources at present. This difficult situation made him feel
less confident when communicating with foreign partners than
two years ago. He added that Vietnam needs stronger software
companies and to create a fair market to become a high
advantage nation in the IT industry. The Government should
encourage enterprises to develop the domestic market and
particularly support the digital industry, he added. In
addition, Vietnam should focus on assessing the software
price and protecting intellectual property rights.

Japanese groups home
in on Vietnam |

When Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Aerospace was planning to
build a factory to assemble wing flaps for Boeing, it looked
around south-east Asia before settling on what is rapidly
becoming the region’s destination of choice: Vietnam. “My
first proposal was Thailand because we already have a
subsidiary making air conditioners, but the wages in
Thailand are already high,” said Hirotaka Masuda, the head
of the MHI Aerospace Vietnam. In opening a factory in
Vietnam, MHI Aerospace is taking a path that more and more
companies are taking, driven by cheap labor and relative
political stability.
Vietnam also provides easier access to the US west coast
than Indonesia, Cambodia and Bangladesh, which are competing
for foreign investment. A Japan Bank for International
Co-operation (JBIC) survey of Japanese companies with
overseas operations found that Vietnam beats China and India
as the most promising source of cheap labor. It was
significantly ahead of Brazil, Russia and Thailand, a
perennial favorite for Japanese investors.
Japanese foreign direct investment in Vietnam rose from
$153m in 2005 to $1.1bn in 2008 before falling back last
year to $568m. That represents 270 per cent growth, in
comparison with only 27 per cent growth in investment in
China.

City’s lion dance troupe, will join the event.
The first Vietnam – Japan Cultural Exchange event took place
in Hoi An in 2003 and since then it has become an annual
event. The event aims to strengthen Vietnam-Japan friendship
and cooperation as well as to popularize the charms of the
ancient town of Hoi An, a UNESCO world cultural heritage
site.
A Japanese quarter was established in Hoi An centuries ago,
as exemplified by the Japanese Bridge (Nihonbashi), which is
considered the symbol of Hoi An. The bridge is also used as
a symbol of the cultural exchange between the two nations.
