Microsoft to partner FPT on Cloud Computing |
|
FPT will partner with Microsoft Corp. to develop cloud
computing services, according to a memorandum of
understanding signed by the two sides on May 24.
FPT and Microsoft, the world’s largest software maker, will
offer data and communications services.
“Cloud computing is the most important thing driving
innovation,” Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer
said at a briefing in Hanoi the same day. He went on to say
that Microsoft is “super-impressed” by FPT’s technology.
Cloud computing is Internet-based computing, whereby shared
resources, software and information are provided to
computers and other devices on-demand, like the electricity
grid. FPT CEO Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam said cloud computing
would hasten IT development in the Country. |

FPT
and Trend Micro cooperate |
|
A strategic agreement was signed between FPT Corporation and
Trend Micro Group on May 18. The two sides will cooperate in
developing, exploiting and providing cloud computing
services and technologies in Vietnam.
Trend Micro, headquartered in Japan, is the world’s leading
information and network security company with more than 20
years experience.
The agreement between FPT and Trend Micro is considered a
significant step forward in the field of clouding computing
in Vietnam as a global technology trend. |

Hitachi
visits FPT Software |
|
Representatives from the member companies of Hitachi Group
have paid visits to FPT Software recently. On May 25,
HitachiSoft Chairman Mr. Ono Isao worked with FPT leaders in
Hanoi and Da Nang City to discuss on business opportunities
for the two sides, and visited FPT Software’s project team
working for Hitachi Soft.
From May 18 to 21, FPT Software’s Danang branch also
received a delegation from Hitachi Ltd. The delegation, led
by Mr. Yasufumi FUKUOKA (General Manager, Whole country
Public Solution Headquarters), included leaders from many
member units of Hitachi Ltd. The delegation is responsible
for all Hitachi Ltd.’s local government projects across the
whole of Japan. The visit aimed to promote cooperation with
FPT in this field. |

Conquer
the world with FPT Software |
|
FPT Software held a Career Day named "Conquer the world with
FPT Software" with the best 100 IT students from many
universities in Hanoi on May 22. This is a huge recruitment
program of FPT Software, towards the target of recruiting
4000 software engineers in three years of 2010 - 2012, of
which 1000 ones in year 2010.
The program also aims to equip IT students with knowledge
about the working environment, soft skills, career
objectives, etc. |

businesses chosen for National Brand Name Program
|
Forty-three enterprises have been selected to participate in
the second phase of the National Trademark Program,
according to an announcement from the Ministry of Industry
and Trade. The program is the only one of its kind created
by the Government to help establish a national image based
on innovation, creativity, quality and leadership.
The selected businesses would be able to use an official
seal on their products as well as in promotional material,
adding that they could also contribute suggestions and ideas
to develop detailed action programs.

Lockheed Martin to produce Vietnam’s second satellite
|
|
US aerospace company Lockheed Martin Commercial signed a
contract on May 11 to manufacture Vietnam’s second
satellite, VINASAT-2, which is scheduled for launch in 2012.
With a total investment of US$280-300 million, VINASAT-2
will have a 15-year-life-span and cover Southeast Asia and
surrounding areas.
Vietnam's first satellite, VINASAT-1, also manufactured by
Lockheed Martin, was launched in April 2008.

Vietnam, EU wraps up 7th PCA negotiation round
|
|
Vietnam and the European Union (EU) concluded the seventh
round of negotiations for the Partnership and Cooperation
Agreement (PCA) in Brussels on May 21.
The two sides discussed issues on which their views remain
opposed, including common principles, clauses on
non-proliferation of mass weapons, principles on cooperation
in trade and investment, trade consultation, the technical
barriers to trade agreement (TBT), the sanitary and
phytosanitary measures agreement (SPS), intellectual
property rights (IPR), tariffs, labor and jobs, migration,
education, health, and natural disaster mitigation and
prevention.
Both sides agreed to conduct the eighth round of negotiation
for the PCA in Hanoi in early July.

Vietnam to focus on stabilizing economy, inflation |
|
The Vietnam Government’s top priorities are to implement
measures to stabilize the economy, control inflation and
ensure a return to “solid economic growth,” Deputy Prime
Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung said in the opening speech of the
National Assembly meeting in Hanoi on May 20.
The Government is targeting annual growth of 7.5% to 8.5%
over the period 2011 to 2015. The Country will encourage
exports to narrow the trade deficit and increase foreign
currency reserves, Deputy PM Hung said, adding that Vietnam
will try to achieve its economic growth target of 6.5% for
this year.

Celebrating 8th birthday of ”The Cucumber” |
|
FPT Software’s internal newspaper is perhaps oddly named The
Cucumber, and is written by FPT Software staff members in
many languages such as: English, Vietnamese, French,
Russian, Japanese, and any other languages of FPT Software
customers. The newspaper has become the vehicle to share
feelings and views on the events of the Company, as well as
share details of the culture and working styles of the
Company and its customers.
Debuting in 2002, The Cucumber was first published as a
16-page monthly newspaper. But now, it is published
fortnightly with a circulation of over 2000. These copies
are widely distributed in all the domestic branches as well
as in the overseas companies.
Activities to celebrate its 8th birthday include: The
Cucumber Water Games in Hanoi, The Golden Pen writing
contest in Danang, a Karaoke competition for amateur
journalists, and numerous small quizzes for staff members to
upload on the Company’s media system. |

Vietnam wins gold at Asian Taekwondo Championship 2010 |
|
The Vietnamese team has won 1 gold, 2 silvers and 1 bronze
at the Asian Taekwondo Championships 2010, which are being
held in Kazakhstan.
The gold medal went to Nguyen Dinh Toan in the men’s singles
event. Toan and his fellow athlete Thu Ngan also grabbed a
silver medal in the mixed doubles event.
The Vietnamese team gained one bronze medal in the women’s
team event. Along with their achievements in the 2009 World
Championships and the 25th SEA Games, Vietnamese athletes
once more affirm their strength in taekwondo. The Vietnamese
team is expected to secure more medals in resistance events. |
