  FPT Software and FPT Corporation report business results for first half of 2009

FPT Software’s revenue achieved US$18.8 million, an increase of 3% compared with the same period last year. Overseas branches contributed much more to the total revenue, in particular FPT USA’s revenue grew fourfold in comparison with the same period of 2008. FPT Software’s target is to attain US$ 43 million revenue for the whole year of 2009.

The USA and Asia Pacific markets are highlights with stable growth of 65% and 29% respectively. The scale of Japanese and European markets decreased with minus 10% (-10%) growth. Potential business growth areas include Notes Migration, Testing, Medical, and Maintenance.

To the end of June, FPT Software had 2,400 staff. It is planned that the Company will reduce partly profit to invest in human resource development, especially focus on human resource quality.

Also in the next two quarters, FPT Software will focus on quality improvement with specific programs, a roadmap for CMMi5 1.2 version, CSS (Customer Satisfaction Survey) Improvement, widening market, and restructuring sale force.

In July, FPT Corporation also reported its business results. Accordingly, the total revenue of the Corporation achieved VND 8,223 billion (nearly US$484 million), an increase of more than 114% compared to projections.

Profit before tax grew 24.7%, exceeding for the projection of 32.92%. Profit after tax went up 16.4% compared with the same period last year. Average Earnings per share (EPS) achieved VND 3,203 and rose 15.3% compared with the same period of 2008.

FPT’s business areas including Telecommunications, Training, Systems Integration, and Software Outsourcing  maintained their strong performance in the first half of this year.

FPT still affirms its leading position in ICT

FPT Software was honored as the leading software outsourcing enterprise of Vietnam by the Ho Chi Minh City Computer Association (HCA) at the Vietnam ICT Awards 2009 on July 14. FPT Software and its second place rival account for more than 80% of total revenue for the Top 5 software outsourcing enterprises.

 

Apart from FPT Software, other FPT companies received a total of seven ICT prizes. FPT was honored as the leading ICT enterprise of Vietnam. The first prize for IT education unit, the Cup of Top ICT 2009, and the gold medal of ICT 2009 all belonged to FPT’s IT education center Aptech. FPT Information Systems was awarded two prizes, namely the leading IT system integration service provider and the leading software enterprise. Furthermore, the best computer brand of Vietnam and the gold medal for hardware company went to FPT Elead.

 

The HCA granted 32 gold medals and 34 Top ICT Vietnam Cups to ICT companies in recognition of their contributions to the development of the sector. The annual award is a good measure of how the market feels about Vietnam’s ICT businesses, reflecting customer approval of the quality of a company’s products and services.

  FPT Information Systems introduces new product

The Overall Clinic Management product was introduced by FPT Information Systems (FIS) for the first time and was handed over for the Business Center of Hospital – Medical – Education Software on July 21.

 

The product is the result of three months of FIS research and development and is an innovation product of FPT eHospital. Its main customers are expected to be modern and large clinics and it should be ready for development this July.

 

 VIETNAM CORNER

   Microsoft to supply ITs service to Vietnam Foreign Ministry

Microsoft Vietnam will develop IT solutions for the operations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOF), as well as to help ensure compliance with the Law on Intellectual Property and Vietnam’s international commitments on copyright and software licensing, under a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed on July 11 with the Ministry’s Information and Communication Centre.

Pursuant to the MOU, Microsoft Vietnam will survey the Ministry’s IT situation in order to provide consultation on designing and implementing a Standard IT Frame Architecture and an IT development roadmap through to 2015. Microsoft Vietnam will provide financial support to the Ministry for the survey, consultancy, and design fees. It will also provide training to the Ministry’s specialized IT staff.

Vietnam ready for world IT forum

The noted World Information Technology Forum (WITFOR) 2009 will be held for the first time in Vietnam this August. The host country is finalising preparations to welcome nearly 1,500 delegates from 70 countries. This will be the first time the WITFOR has been organised in an Asian country.

 

Under the theme “IT for Sustainable Development”, WITFOR 2009 Vietnam will run from August 26-28 in Hanoi. Besides the official activities, some side-line events will be held, including an ICT exhibition, an international software exhibition, program named PCs for Life, ICT Networking, business matching, an ICT job fair and symposiums on IT human resources, business cooperation, Vietnam’s software industry, and others.

 

The event is expected to bring about many cooperation and investment opportunities in the field of ICT for Vietnam.

  Vietnam ICT Outlook 2009

The Vietnam ICT Outlook conference 2009 (VIO 2009) was officially opened on July 15 in Ho Chi Minh City. VIO’s reports showed that Vietnam has become one of the world’s best-positioned countries for Information & Communications Technology (ICT), despite the global economic crisis.

For example, the rate of copyright infringement has gradually decreased. In 2009, for the first time Vietnam escaped the list of top ten countries for software copyright infringement.

Other indicators have risen compared with previous years. The ICT development index increased 15 levels, making Vietnam the 92nd country out of 154. The level of readiness to participate in and enjoy advantages from ICT development went up three places from 73 to 70 out of 134 countries. Additionally, Vietnam is the 72nd of 134 nations having advantageous environment for investment. The ratio of ICT use also rose 31 places.

This year witnessed strong development in the fields of telecommunications and Internet, making Vietnam the 18th country in the world and the 6th biggest in Asian in terms of users.

  Vietnam’s longest cable-stayed bridge inaugurated

Thuan Phuoc Bridge, the longest cable-stayed bridge in Vietnam, was inaugurated on July 17 in the central coast city of Danang after 6 years of construction. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung participated in the ceremony.

 

The bridge is nearly 2,119 meters long and 18 meters wide and is expected to withstand up to 100 years. The PM said that Danang had made a breakthrough in traffic and infrastructure construction, and had contributed to sustainable development of the city with the inauguration of Thuan Phuoc Bridge.

 

Also on the same day in Danang, ground was broken on construction of the Rong (Dragon) Bridge. The bridge will link Danang International Airport with coastal tourist sites over the Han River with total estimated capital of nearly VND1.5 trillion. It is expected to be completed in 2012 and should become a new icon for the City.

4.4

percent is the growth rate of Vietnam in the second quarter of 2009. First quarter growth was 3.1% and it is estimated that the figure will reach 4.5% for the whole year. Meanwhile, eight out of 14 countries in the area had negative growth this year.

SOCIAL CORNER

  FPT Software’s sport competitions open

The annual swimming competition of FPT Software was launched on July 25 and opened up to all FPT’s staff. The number of staff registering to participate was more than 100.

The activity is always organized in summer to enhance the participants’ spirit of sport and solidarity.

Also in July, the annual ‘Hung V’ football Cup was launched in Hanoi with 12 football teams entering competitions.

The Cup is named after one of FPT Software’s young and enthusiastic staff Vu Hung (HungV) who tragically died early.

  First world champs draws 14 nations

The first world championship featuring the Vietnamese traditional martial art, Vovinam, will have athletes from 14 nations compete at Ho Chi Minh City’s Military Zone 7 Gymnasium from July 26.

Organisers said 115 martial artists from Australia, Belarus, Cambodia, France, Germany, India, Iran, Italy, Poland, Russia, Romania, Thailand, Ukraine and Viet Nam will compete for 30 medal sets at the July 26-31 championship which includes eight in performance events and twelve in combat events.

France, Italy and Germany are evaluated to be very strong in the performance events, while Russia, Iran and Thailand are very strong in combat events.

The Vietnamese squad of 45 martial artists is highly rated in lightweight categories in performance events but face stiff competition in heavier categories and combat events.

The hosts are expected to win 10-12 gold medals in the performance events and four in combat events.

Vovinam, which now has about 100,000 practitioners worldwide, is Viet Nam’s first sport on the roster of Asian Indoor Games.
