FIRST SEMICONDUCTOR PARTS FACTORY TO OPEN
The first US$36 million factory to support the semiconductor industry, for the GES Vietnam joint-stock Company, has been granted a license. The plant will be built in Saigon High Tech Park (SHTP), District 9 and will begin operation in September 2008 with around 500 engineers and new university graduates. The GES Vietnam joint-stock Company is a member of the US-based Global Equipment Services & Manufacturing Inc, which provides electronic equipment design, upgrades, production, and maintenance for semiconductor manufacturers.
Vietnam was chosen as the destination for the investment because of the wave of giant semiconductor manufacturers planning to invest in the country soon. Vietnam is also viewed as a stable, emerging place for investment, which will become a huge market for semiconductors, thanks to its large and young population.
According to Mr. Don Tran, General Director of GES Vietnam, it took them a shorter time to get their license granted than in Japan or Republic or Korea and without any administrative problems.
