New law governs hi-tech sector
|
Vietnam has taken a further step in developing the legal
framework for the country's hi-tech sector with the new Law
on High Technology taking effect on July 1.
According to the National Assembly’s Committee for Science,
Technology and the Environment, the Law shows Vietnam’s
determination in developing its hi-tech industry, by
creating a legal foundation for foreign investors who are
interested in Vietnam's hi-tech sector. It also provides a
coordinated legal foundation for all aspects of hi-tech
activities, from construction of infrastructure to
manufacturing, production and hi-tech education and
training.
The breakthrough of the Law is the National Hi-tech Plan,
which will be submitted by the Ministry to the Government in
August, to the Politburo in September and to the National
Assembly at its next session later this year.

Vietnam's entertainment and media MARKET TO GROW FASTEST IN THE
WORLD IN 2013
|
PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC),
the multinational consulting firm, predicts that Vietnam
will be the world’s fastest-growing entertainment and media
(E&M) market from 2009 to 2013.
PWC says in its annual Global Entertainment & Media Outlook,
that in the current economic downturn, Asia-Pacific is the
only region where it expects spending to grow in 2009. The
firm predicts that in Vietnam, E&M spending will grow at a
slower rate than the overall economy in the downturn phase
and then leapfrog GDP as the recovery gathers pace and
consumer spending picks up.
The value of Vietnam’s E&M market tripled in the five years
from 2004 to 2009 and is expected to exceed US$2 billion in
2013. Although in 2008, PWC ranked Vietnam as the fourth
fastest growing country for E&M, right after Saudi
Arabia/Pan Arabia, India and Indonesia, this year Vietnam
jumped to first place.
