DEFECT PREVENTION DAY INITIATIVE PROVED TO BE EFFECTIVE
In order to improve defect prevention, Operation Group 11, which mainly develops embedded software, has made every Wednesday their Defect Prevention Day (DPD). On DPDs all OG members wear red T-shirts and organize training and experience-sharing sessions on defect prevention; they brainstorm functional business and technical issues, create rules and patterns for tests, among other activities. Documents on common defect prevention and reviews are now being developed to enhance the effectiveness of the overall Defect Prevention Process.
The initiative has helped the project team cover 90% of total defects in a project through touch screen applications for managing production systems; previously labeled as a ‘mission impossible’ by the client for its apparent difficulties and strict deadlines.
