Autumn music club

 

“Hanoi Autumn Night” was the theme of an FPT Software Music Club activity which took place at FSoft House on October 10th. The activity aimed to bring FPT Software staff together to enjoy and share their passion for music, especially for songs celebrating Hanoi’s autumn.

 

The music Club (which is part of the Youth Union, the division which dedicates itself to caring for FPT Software staff’s spiritual life) began its activities in March 2006. The Club organizes similar bi-monthly activities with different themes. Many FPT staff thoroughly enjoy singing, and this event also demonstrates our unique corporate culture.

 

 

 

 FPT CORNER

 OPENING CEREMONY OF FPT CAU GIAY BUILDING

 

The FPT Cau Giay Building was officially inaugurated in Hanoi on October 8th. This is a 17-storey building constructed on a 4,000 square meter site; the building was constructed to very high standards and ranks among the top state-of-the-art buildings in Vietnam.  

 

FPT Cau Giay is divided into two functional sections, one is a software production and training center, the other is the office area. The building also includes meeting halls and facilities for recreation and gatherings.

 

Meanwhile, FPT Corporation will start reconstructing its headquarters in April, 2008. This is to be a 27-storey building which will be opened on the occasion of FPT’s 22th anniversary in 2010.  

 

  DEFECT PREVENTION DAY INITIATIVE PROVED TO BE EFFECTIVE

 

In order to improve defect prevention, Operation Group 11, which mainly develops embedded software, has made every Wednesday their Defect Prevention Day (DPD). On DPDs all OG members wear red T-shirts and organize training and experience-sharing sessions on defect prevention; they brainstorm functional business and technical issues, create rules and patterns for tests, among other activities. Documents on common defect prevention and reviews are now being developed to enhance the effectiveness of the overall Defect Prevention Process.

 

The initiative has helped the project team cover 90% of total defects in a project through touch screen applications for managing production systems; previously labeled as a ‘mission impossible’ by the client for its apparent difficulties and strict deadlines.

 

 

  JISA DELEGATION VISITS FPT SOFTWARE

 

A delegation from the Japan Information Technology Services Industry Association (JISA), led by Mr. Atsushi Nishijo, Chairman of Sumisho Computer Systems Corporation visited FPT Software on 9th October. JISA’s visit was aimed at exchanging information and finding more cooperation opportunities in the IT industry. The visit was part of JISA’s plan to promote international activities and industry-academia partnerships, and strengthen ties with international organizations.

 

Established in 1984, presently JISA has 650 official members and 70 associates, including some of the largest Japanese hardware vendors, bankers, traders, leading software developers and suppliers. JISA represents 10% of the IT services companies in Japan, which together account for approximately 50% of total staff in the Industry as well as 50% of market share.

 

 FPT SOFTWARE WELCOMES CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF UK TRADE & INVESTMENT

 

A UK Trade & Investment Delegation, led by CEO Andrew Cahn, visited the FPT Software – Harvey Nash Offshore Development Center (ODC) on 28th September 2007. This was part of his three-day visit to Vietnam to explore investment co-operation as well as to meet UK companies successfully operating in Vietnam.

 

The CEO shared his optimistic views about the Vietnamese Software industry with its intelligent and educated workforce and a very strong commercial culture; he noted that Vietnam is a natural place for the software industry to thrive. In addition, Cahn affirmed that the ODC co-operation model between Harvey Nash and FPT Software is a center of excellence and it should be applied by British companies in forthcoming years.

 

UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) is the UK government’s organization that provides integrated support services for UK companies engaged in overseas trade, and foreign businesses. 

 

 VIETNAM CORNER

 VIETNAM PLANS TO BUY 42 NEXT GENERATION AIRCRAFT

 

The national carrier Vietnam Airlines has wrapped up negotiations for its huge deal to purchase 42 next generation aircrafts. As agreed with Boeing, Vietnam Airlines will purchase 4 more B787-8 and Vietnam Aircraft Leasing Company (VALC) will acquire 8 aircraft of the same make. The deliveries will come in 2015-2017. Vietnam Airlines and VALC have also inked important agreements with Airbus specifying a deal for 30 new generation aircraft.

 

Vietnam Airlines aims to become a significant player in the region, and also in the world. With this MOU, by 2015, Vietnam Airlines’ fleet will have 86 units, and by 2020, it will have 110 units, most of them being next generation aircraft.

 PM DUNG'S FRANCE VISIT MARKED WITH HUGE BUSINESS DEALS

 

Ten economic deals worth US$6 billion have been signed, on the sidelines of a Business Forum on October 2nd, which was organized on the occasion of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s visit to France.

 

The deals included an agreement between Vietnam Garment and Textile Corporation (Vinatex) and BNP Paribas to issue Vinatex bonds worth US$500 million; a US$500 million contract between the Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development and several French companies to help Vietnamese farmers export coffee; and, a deal for Alstom to supply equipment valued at US$250 million for the Son La Hydro-electricity project, which is the largest of its kind so far in Vietnam.

  HCM CITY TAKES LEAD IN ASIA-PACIFIC DEVELOPMENT MARKET

 

Ho Chi Minh City is taking the lead among development markets in the Asia-Pacific region, according to a recent report published by Price-Waterhouse-Coopers (PwC) and the Urban Land Institute.

 

The report also listed Ho Chi Minh City as the top Asia-Pacific city in terms of the hotel sector, a category of property favored for investment. The city was followed by Bangalore, Shanghai, Mumbai and New Delhi.

 TAIWAN'S COMPAL GETS LICENSE TO INVEST US$500 MILLION IN VIETNAM

 

Taiwan’s Compal group, the second largest notebook manufacturer in the world, received an investment certificate for its US$500 million project to produce computers, laptops and TV monitors, and electronic components in the northern province of Vinh Phuc on October 4th.

 

The project will be carried out from the third quarter of this year and its first phase is slated for completion within two years. The plant is expected to turn out 24 million computers a year by 2012, and generate jobs for about 35,000 people. The project is expected to attract 50 other projects, valued at US$1 billion, involved in manufacturing computer components.
