RUSSIAN DAY

November 7th was selected as Russian Day; when FPT Staff who have either studied, worked or are simply interested in Russia, got together and shares their unforgettable memories of the country. Whilst there may have been differences in age or background, the participants enjoyed sharing their experiences about the country and the people of Russia.

The Russian Day 2007 attracted over 40 people including many FPT Software staff, as well as staff from other FPT member companies and even friends from Russia.

  FPT SOFTWARE JAPAN'S 2ND ANNIVERSARY

FPT Software Japan (FSJ) will celebrate its 2nd anniversary on November 27th, 2007. Established in November 2005, the Company has developed quickly, at a rate of 70% annually, and has made a huge contribution to the development of FPT Software’s international stature.

FSJ aims to develop long-term partnerships with Japanese Customers, as well as ambitiously setting out to make Vietnam a major IT outsourcing destination.

LARGE PROJECT SIGNED WITH EUROPEAN CUSTOMER

FPT Software has recently sealed a deal with a large European customer to specify a software outsourcing Project in telecommunications. This is a 3,500 man-day project using ETL Tool Datastage technology. The Project may also lead to an opportunity for a 5 year maintenance contract.

The contract, signed with a reputable European customer, marks an important milestone for FPT Software in approaching this potential market and lays the groundwork for the European Representative Office, to be opened in early 2008.

  FPT TO UPGRADE TECHNOLOGY TO BETTER SERVE 'E-CITIZENS'

Mr. Truong Gia Binh, FPT’s CEO, announced the Corporation’s plans to upgrade FPT’s technology, in realization of its “E-citizen strategy”, at the Corporation Investors Summit on November 1st, 2007.

FPT is the leading ICT Company in Vietnam. However, it is now facing some restrictions, posed by old technology, especially in supplying services for e-citizens. FPT plans to apply advanced technologies such as search engines, web 2.0, ADSL infrastructure, Wimax and Wifi technologies to develop an integrated system and connect its diverse range of services.  

At the 16th IT week, which took place from October 26th – 30th, FPT Corporation exhibited its “Technology garden” showcasing the daily routines of an e-citizen.

 FPT UNIVERSITY'S STUDENTS SHOW INTEREST IN WILDLIFE PROTECTION

In order to develop students’ life skills and raise awareness of nature protection, FPT University coordinated with Education for Nature-Vietnam (ENV) to organize a Seminar on wildlife protection.

During the Seminar, the FPT students impressed environmentalists with their perceptive questions and innovative approaches to environmental protection.

The Seminar is part of the Personal Development Program of FPT University

 
 

 VIETNAM CORNER

 MEASURES APPROVED TO ENSURE HIGH-QUALITY IT HUMAN RESOURCES

The Minister of Information and Communications has ratified the IT Human Resources Strategy till 2020. The Strategy aims to provide high quality IT human resources for the intellectual economy and information society, and to make Vietnam one of the high-quality IT training centers in the region and the world.

The Ministry has outlined several measures, including expanding IT training centers in large cities such as Hanoi, Haiphong, Danang, Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho, and giving the green light to 100% foreign invested universities and joint ventures in the field.

 VIETNAM RANKED 10TH IN PRESTIGIOUS INTERNATIONAL TRADE INTEGRATION INDEX

Vietnam ranked 48th generally and 10th in terms of trade integration, according to the “Globalization Index 2007” by AT Kearney consulting group and Foreign Policy Magazine.

The “Globalization Index” is an annual study which assesses the extent to which nations are becoming more or less globally connected, taking into account 12 variables covering four categories — economic integration, personal contacts, technological connectivity and political engagement. The “Globalization Index” report is one of the most prestigious ranking lists about nations’ participation in the globalization process.

VIETNAM-JAPAN TO PROMOTE FURTHER CULTURAL TIES

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Vietnam-Japan Friendship Ambassador Sugi Ryotaro expressed their commitment to developing relations between the two countries in a meeting on November 2nd, 2007. The Prime Minister also pledged to coordinate with Japan to organize cultural exchange programs in the near future.

Mr. Sugi Ryotaro recently led a Japanese mission to Vietnam to hold a film-making contest for Vietnamese students and to prepare for cultural activities to commemorate the 30 years of bilateral relations between Vietnam and Japan.

  US PLEDGES FURTHER TRADE AND EDUCATION TIES WITH VIETNAM

US Secretary of Commerce Carlos M. Gutierrez led a mission of 23 companies to Vietnam on a recent fact-finding visit. In a meeting with Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet, the Secretary of Commerce pledged that the US will promote two-way trade with Vietnam and hopes to assist Vietnam in personnel development and education in order to build a long-term partnership with Vietnam. He also expressed his desire that US companies would find cooperation and investment opportunities in Vietnam during their five-day visit, which began on November 4th.

In return, the President affirmed Vietnam’s commitment to ensuring favorable investment policies for foreign investors.

Vietnam and the US have enjoyed a surge in investment and commerce in recent years; with 2007 bilateral trade turnover estimated to be US$12 billion.
