FPT SIGNED US$100 MILLION CONTRACT WITH SBI HOLDINGS

A Vietnam-Japan Investment Fund has been established with a capital of US$ 100 million, under a joint partnership between FPT and Tokyo-based SBI Holdings Inc.

It will be involved in the finance and banking sectors and has the potential to expand in areas such as science, information technology and Internet services. The Fund will focus on long term and fast growing investment opportunities. FPT and SBI Holdings affirmed that US$ 100 million is only the establishment fund; both have pledged more investment in the future.

FREESCALE CHAIRMAN & CEO VISITED FPT SOFTWARE

Freescale’s Chairman & CEO, Mr. Michel Mayer visited FPT Software on Nov 30th to meet up with Mr. Truong Gia Binh (Chairman), Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam (CEO) and other executives of FPT Software. Mr. Mayer delivered an impressive speech to FPT University students. He was  impressed by the strong growth of FPT Software especially in software embedding. He also showed great interested in Analog technology and encouraged FPT Software to strengthen embedding skills to meet the increasing demand.

Freescale Semiconductor, Inc. is a global leader in the design and manufacture of embedded semiconductors for the automotive, consumer, industrial, networking and wireless markets. The privately-held company is based in Austin, Texas, and has design, research and development, manufacturing and sales operations in more than 30 countries. Freescale is one of the world's largest semiconductor companies with 2006 sales of $US6.4 billion.

INFORMATION SECURITY AGREEMENT

As of early December 2007 FPT Software has arranged the signing of the Information Security Agreement, in which all FPT Software staff must commit to strictly follow the Company’s Information Security Regulations. The agreement will come into force on the signing day and will expire 5 years after the termination of the labor contract.

FPT Software has always been committed to Intellectual Property protection. In 2007 the Company upgraded its certificate to ISO 27001:2005 and carried out information security campaigns to improve tangible and intangible information security.

FPT UNIVERSITY TO PROMOTE INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

FPT University and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) singed Memorandum of Understandings (MOU) on bilateral cooperation on December 3rd. According to the MOU the two Universities will promote exchanges of curricula, training courses, materials and co-organize seminars and conferences.

 

CMU is one of the leading IT universities in USA; the organization which developed the prestigious Capability Maturity Model (CMM) which is widely applied in the world software industry.

 
 

 VIETNAM CORNER

VIETNAM ATTRACTS WORLD MICROCHIP PRODUCERS

Leading world technology companies Renesas and SV Probe (Singapore) both plan to build facilities in Vietnam.  Renesas said that the country was becoming a magnet for integrated circuit (IC) designers and producers and is more cost-effective than other countries in the region.

SV Probe’s facility will employ up to 800 people. Officials said that the Vietnam factory will be the center of manufacturing excellence and help to strengthen production capacity and cost efficiency. Both companies plan significant investment in Vietnam.

VIETNAM - INDIA IT COOPERATION PROSPECTS

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Thien Nhan and Vietnam Software Association (VINASA) received Kiran Karrnik, President of India’s Software and Service Association (NASSCOM) in Hanoi on December 8.

 

The Deputy PM said he believed that the fact-finding visit by the Indian IT business delegation, led by NASSCOM’s president, will not only boost cooperation between Vietnam-India IT sectors, but also offer more chances for IT businesses in two countries to seek partners. NASSCOM President Kiran Karrnik shared experiences in boosting IT industry in India, saying the visit will bring about possible IT projects between the two countries in the future.

 

According to Mr. Truong Gia Binh, President of VINASA and Chairman of FPT Software, NASSCOM came to Vietnam because they believe that Vietnam will play an important role in the world software industry in the coming 5 - 10 years. NASSCON seeks to engage Vietnam in their global software services network.

PRESIDENT TRIET SUCCESSFULLY ENDS JAPAN VISIT

During a November 25-29 visit to Japan, President Triet met with Japanese Emperor Akihito and held talks with Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda and other important Japanese officials as well as economic organizations and groups.

 

President Triet’s address emphasized the strength of Japan’s partnership in Vietnam's economic development, and expressed his belief that the bilateral economic partnership agreement (EPA) will soon be signed to boost Japan's investment in Vietnam and expand bilateral trade ties.

VIETNAM ANNOUNCED THE END OF ACUTE DIARRHEA CRISIS

The end of the spread of acute diarrhea in Vietnam was announced by the Ministry of Health and representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO) on December 10th.

The Epidemic was brought under control a month after its outbreak and no further cases have been reported since 25th November. All samples of water, land and food in the infectious areas tested  negative to cholera bacterium.

The dangerous diarrhea ran riot across 13 cities and provinces last month with over 1,900 people having fallen victim, 295 of whom tested positive to cholera.

HELMET FESTIVAL

In order to increase the awareness of FPT Software staff in wearing helmets, the Youth Union will organize a helmet festival during mid December, 2007. There will be exciting games such as, couple slow cycling, bag jumping, and team skipping. All competitors will be required to wear helmets in every game.

Law enforcing the wearing of helmets  took effect on December 15th. Since October 2007, FPT Software have had many activities to encourage its staff to wear helmets.

 

CULTURE WEEK PROMOTED

VIETNAMESE COFFEE

The coffee culture week opened on November 29th in Hanoi at Thong Nhat (Reunification) Park, featuring a wide range of activities imbued with the cultural characteristics of the coffee region.

For the first time, coffee lovers have the chance to witness the steps of coffee production, from planting to processing and even ways to enjoy. Visitors to the event can also learn more about different tastes of coffee, its history, and culture in Vietnam and the world.
