FPT Corporation was honored at the Texas Pacific Group (TPG) CEO Summit with the important award of TPG’s fastest growing company on October 24^th. Mr. Truong Gia Binh, FPT’s CEO, was the company’s representative to receive the Award.

The Summit gathers 150 CEOs of big companies in the world such as Sun Microsystems, EDS, Avaya, Boeing, and Seagate. During the program in the USA, Mr. Truong Gia Binh will also be working with the CEO of Yahoo and visiting EA, the world leading Games Company.

FPT Securities Joint Stock Company (FPTS) officially debuted on October 10^th, 2007 after a several month trial run. The Company provides securities brokerage, securities trading, investment consultancy and securities custody services; the Company will also provide performance improvement (PI) and investor relations (IR) services.

FPTS will take advantage of its technological edge to provide the very best products and services for its clients, such as EzTrade and EzSearch tools for securities transaction. FPTS is also the first company in Vietnam to successfully develop an online OTC transaction floor.

  FPT TO BUILD TELECOMMUNICATIONS  INFRASTRUCTURE

FPT has received permission from the Ministry of Information and Communications to establish its own telecommunications networks and provide telecom services.

FPT Telecom plans to develop both traditional and new telecom services like telephone and Internet, Internet phone and value added services based on broadband Internet, video conferencing, leased lines. Effective package services and stable infrastructure facilities will be just some of the competitive advantages of FPT.

 FPT SELECTED AS NEC'S PC ASSEMBLE PARTNER

FPT was named by the Japan-based NEC Computer Asia Pacific as its authorized partner to perform final configuration and assemble its commercial range of NEC POWERMATE desktop personal computers.

NEC POWERMATE desktop PCs assembled in Vietnam will be made available throughout FPT's network of commercial resellers, as well as retail outlets, before the end of the year. The PCs assembled by FPT will target the government and education sectors in Vietnam. The contract between FPT and NEC will last for two years and will be subject to renewal upon expiration.

FPT has also partnered with HP Singapore to assemble computers in Vietnam. According to HP’s representative, they plan to produce low-cost products to make them accessible to people across Vietnam and cooperate with local information technology companies and banks to encourage more investment in IT from small- and medium-sized enterprises.

Ambitious, well-connected and active in IT, software development and exports, Mr. Truong Gia Binh, FPT’s CEO, was named as one of Asiamoney’s 100 most influential people in business and finance across Asia-Pacific. FPT Corporation is famous for its subsidiaries of FPT Bank, FPT Securities, FPT Telecom and FPT Software, the biggest software company in Vietnam.

China remained the best represented nation, with 15 of the top 100, down one from last year; Japan had 13 representatives for 2007, the same as last year. India was not one of the most represented countries, but its representative, Mr. Ratan Tata, Chairman of Tata Group, held the top place in the list.

With 183 out of 190 votes, Vietnam was elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2008-09 term. Vietnam will officially begin work at the Council from January 1, 2008, replacing Qatar, which will conclude its term on December 31, 2007.

The new role will elevate Vietnam’s international prestige but will also bring with it heavy responsibilities. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung affirmed that Vietnam would actively cooperate with other UN Security Council members to develop appropriate policies for the sake of the legitimate interests of all UN member countries.

 japan ict day to be held in hanoi and hcm city

In order to promote Vietnamese – Japanese ICT cooperation, VINASA coordinated with the VINASA Japan IT Cooperation Club and JETRO to organize the “Japan ICT Day 2007” in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City from 13 – 17 November.

Under the theme of “Vietnam – Japan IT bridge” the event is expected to bring together Vietnamese and Japanese IT enterprises in terms of human resources, policies and business. There will be many important activities at the Japan ICT Day 2007 such as an exhibition, a seminar on human resources, Japanese proficiency tests and a keynote conference on IT related policies with representatives from the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

  VIETNAM RANKS 6^th WORLDWIDE FOR INVESTMENT ATTRACTION PROSPECT

Some 11% of transnational groups confirmed that Vietnam will be their most attractive destination in forthcoming years, a report from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has revealed. Vietnam was ranked 6^th, behind China, India, the US, Russia and Brazil.

According to a survey carried out by the Asian Business Council, Vietnam ranks 3rd in the world for investment attraction to Asian groups in 2007-2009. Up to 85% of the owners of Asian groups interviewed said that they plan to invest in China, 51% in India and 38%  interested in investing in Vietnam.

 first post-graduate course on nano-technology opens

The Vietnam National University in Hanoi (VNU) and the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) jointly opened their first post-graduate course on nano-technology and science on October 19^th. Sixteen students from the course will be trained in Vietnam and will then travel to Japan for further training and to defend their theses at JAIST.

The program, which was launched in 2004, aims to provide high-quality post-graduate training in nano material technology, information technology and knowledge-based science.

A year ago, Ho Chi Minh City’s National University inaugurated a US$4.3 million nanotechnology laboratory to undertake research into state-of-the-art technologies. The Lab has become a destination for foreign and local experts to share know-how and apply nanotechnology.
